Edward Alleyn
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Bishopsgate, London
Born on 1st of September 1566
Died on 25th of November 1626

Alleyne (or Allen, or Alleyne, spelling in Tudor and Stuart times being somewhat flexible) was a contemporary of Shakespeare, and one of the most celebrated actors of his day who created several of the lead roles in Kit Marlowe’s plays. Unlike most thespians he retired at the top in his thirties, but could not resist a return to the stage a few years later. With his father-in-law he owned theatres, bear pits and brothels, making enough from his business dealings to endow Dulwich College.
