Graeme Swann
Born in Northampton, NorthamptonshireBorn on 24th of March 1979
Died in 000
Graeme Swann was one of the most successful spin bowlers in English cricketing history, when he finally made the breakthrough to the test side proving a hugely skilful wicket-taking bowler. That was in 2008, nine years after his first inclusion in an England test squad. In the intervening years bowlers without his guile, turn or variety, but more acceptable to the powers-that-be, held sway. In 60 tests he took 255 wickets, with five wickets in a match 17 times, and 10 wickets in a match three times, the first English spinner since Jim Laker to achieve that feat. Injury hastened his retirement, but the bubbly personality – and the perceptiveness beneath it - that some selectors may have found troubling has given him a new career on the radio.
