An architect and designer, his first famous project was the Willis Faber & Dumas headquarters in Ipswich. Prestigious projects in London include 30 St Mary Axe (The Gherkin), London City Hall and the Millenium Bridge. He was knighted in 1990 and appointed to the Order of Merit in 1997. Current projects include Tower 2, the planned reconstruction of the World Trade Centre in New York USA.
