Famous novelist, critic and composer. Fiction includes the Malayan trilogy The Long Day Wanes, Enderby, Nothing Like the Sun, and his best known work, the dystopian tour de force A Clockwork Orange (1962). Later works include Earthly Powers (1980). He wrote critical studies on Joyce, Hemingway, Shakespeare and Lawrence.
