First noticed as lead singer of the band Them, had pop hit with Gloria (1967). Solo success followed with Brown Eyed Girl (1967), Moondance (1970) and the live recording Itís Too Late to Stop Now (1974). One of the most original performers and writers in rock music, his music encompasses soul, rhythm and blues, jazz and folk Awarded OBE in 1996.
