Born 1880. Died 1912 in Antarctica - English explorer.

Educated at Eton. Served in the South African War. With Captain Robert Scott reached the South Pole on 17 January 1912. On return journey he deliberately walked into a blizzard sacrificing his life hoping the remainder of the party would survive.
