Born 1922 - England's most hardworking actor with 150 film credits.

RAF flight-lieutenant before turning to acting. Film debut in Corridor of Mirrors (1947). Role in The Curse of Frankenstein (1956) began long association with Hammer Films. Notable films included Dracula (1958), Rasputin – The Mad Monk (1965) and The Creeping Flesh (1972). More recent films include Sleepy Hollow (1999) and the role of Saruman in the Lord of the Rings triology. Awarded CBE in 2001.
