Born 1929 .Playwright.

Copywriter for trade journals before turning to acting in 1948. Played leading roles at Royal Court Theatre, London. Became well known with his play Look Back in Anger (1956). Other works include Luther (1960), Inadmissible Evidence (1965) and The Hotel in Amsterdam (1968). Won Academy award for filmscript of Tom Jones (1963).
