1882 - 1941. Irish writer and poet.

Studied modern languages at University College, Dublin. Went to live in Switzerland in 1904. Published a volume of poetry, Chamber Music, in 1907 which sold poorly, followed by Dubliners (1914). Published Ulysses in serial form in the New York journal, The Little Review, the journal was prosecuted for publishing obscene matter. Not published in Britain until 1936. His Poems Penyeach appeared in 1927. Died after an operation on a duodenal ulcer.
