Born 1914 - Vienna, Austria. Died 2002 - British biochemist and Nobel Prize winner.

Emigrated to the UK in 1936. Worked on the structure of haemoglobin. Shared the 1962 Nobel Prize for chemistry. Elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1954. Appointed to the Order of Merit in 1988.
