Born 1902 - Vienna, Austria. Died 1994 - British philosopher.

Studied mathematics, music, psychology, physics and philosophy at University of Vienna. Moved to New Zealand with advent of Nazism then to the UK. Became professor at London School of Economics in 1949, retired from full-time teaching in 1969. Wrote on a wide range of philosophical issues, one of most talked about philosophers of the twentieth century. Knighted in 1965, elected FRS in 1976, appointed a Companion of Honour in 1982.
