Terry Pratchett
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire
Born on 28th of April 1948
British hero of the week February 8th 2010

A published short-story writer at 15, with his first novel on the shelves at 23, Pratchett’s career path seemed inevitable from an early age. He began his full-time writing career as a junior local newspaper reporter, and ended it as perhaps the finest British novelist of his era, a unique talent. His Discworld series began as little more than comic fantasy, but soon developed into a rich mix of satire, philosophical musing, gentle polemic and delightful, sometimes poetic, writing. Though of republican sympathies he was knighted in 2009. Pratchett died on March 16 2015, eight years after revealing he had early onset Alzheimer’s.
