Born 1881. Died 1955 - English social anthropologist.
Studied at Cambridge. Completed field research in the Andaman Islands (1906-08) and Australia (1910-11). Took post in South Africa before returning to Australia as Chair of Anthropology in Sydney. With Bronislaw Malinowski was a major architect of modern social anthropology.
