Sir Herbert Read
Born in Kirkbymoorside, North YorkshireBorn on 4th of December 1893
Died on 12th of July 1968
Reed served with distinction in the Green Howards during WWII, also finding the time to establish the journal Arts and Letters in that period. He was recognised as one of the leading war poets for his free verse, and remained a significant poet and literary figure, but he was and is most famous for his art criticism, work that earned him a knighthood (rather to the disgust of his fellow anarchists), and saw him occupy senior positions at institutions from Harvard to the Tate and the V&A, and co-found the ICA.
