Born 1898. Died 1982 - English poet and critic.

Educated at Oxford. Influenced by Siegfried Sassoon but developed own style of erotic and satirical lyrics. First published work was Behind the Eyes (1921). Later published collected editions of poetry. Joined the Communist Party in 1934 and edited the Left Review but left the party in 1956.
