Worked as butcher’s errand boy, soldier and for the Post Office. Freelanced joke cartoons to the Daily Telegraph. Became a regular contributor, evolved into Andy Capp and his wife Flo. First British strip cartoon to be syndicated worldwide. Adapted as stage musical and television series.
