Born 1880. Died 1958 - British birth control pioneer.
Studied at University College, London and in Munich. First female science lecturer at Manchester University. Specialized in fossil plants and coal-mining. Began crusade to spread information on sex and contraception. Her book Married Love (1918) was banned in USA. Opened first British birth control clinic in 1921 with second husband Humphrey Verdon Roe.
