Born 1863. Died 1930 - Scottish electrical engineer and inventor.
Began engineering apprenticeship with William George Armstrong in 1882. Devised new method of insulating electric cables on board ship. Practised as consulting engineer in London specialising in installation of electric lighting. One of first to explore medical use for radiography. Outlined principles of an electronic system of television by means of cathode rays. Elected FRS in 1915.
