Died 1718 - English pirate, known as Blackbeard.

Employed as privateer against Spanish in War of Spanish Succession (1701-13). Turned to piracy attacking vessels in West Indies from his ship Queen Anne’s Revenge. Formed alliance with Governor of North Carolina exchanging a share of his spoils for their protection. Shot dead and decapitated on 22 November 1718.
