Made film debut as an extra. After WWII worked as stand-up comic in revues and television. Film appearances included Private’s Progress (1956) and I’m All Right Jack (1959). Became popular in Hollywood as stereotype of an Englishman in films such as Bachelor Flat (1961) and How To Murder Your Wife (1965). Retired in 1980. Suffered from Parkinson’s disease and in financial hardship.
