Born 1875. Died 1940 - English pianist, composer and writer on music.

Studied at Balliol College, Oxford. Made professional debut as pianist in 1900. Became Professor of Music at Edinburgh in 1914, built up Reid Symphony Orchestra. Composed an opera, a symphony, piano concerto, cello concerto and chamber music. Best remembered for his writings including Companion to the Art of Fugue (1931).
