Born 1945 - English rock musician and writer.
Began playing in Dixieland jazz but switched to rock. The Detours, a band consisting of Roger Daltrey and John Entwistle evolved into The Who. Wrote rock operas including Tommy (filmed 1975) and Quadrophenia (filmed 1979). Began publishing venture, Eel Pie, in 1970s. Consulting Editor for Faber and Faber. Ardent anti-drug campaigner.
