Menheniot, Cornwall

Review of Menheniot by Janice Schneider on February 16th, 2010
We went to the White Heart Hotel in Menheniot as a dinner party of 7 and would like to say what a wonderful meal we had, really hearty portions for hungry visitors and a warm friendly welcome. Excellent service a very enjoyable evening. Would recomend. Some colleagues stayed for a night and said they plan to book again- lovely atmosphere and very comfortable Inn. Staff were great, really helpful.

I was also staying here for a course in Liskeard with the previous reviewer. I can only reinforce her comments. How anyone can run this place and overlook the basics required to make this a pleasant place to stay is beyond me. As our taxi pulled up to drop us off on the first nights stay we were met by two huge buckets of sand either side of the entrance door full of cigarette butts. We are not talking about a few, we are talking about hundreds in this bucket. What effort would it take to remove these on a regular basis. My room was dirty. You could have written your name in the dust on all the furniture. There was no hairdryer, no iron, no welcome book, and the only toileteries were one tiny slither of soap. If you intend to drink in the bar until late into the evening you will be fine. If however like me you had to get up at a resonable hour and be alert the next day, you had no hope staying here. My room was directly under the bar and sleep was impossible. You might as well set your bed up in the bar as there was absolutely no sound proofing between the bedrooms and the bar. I was also disturbed to find absolutely no instructions or directions in the event of a fire in my room. I would have expected that as a bare minimum. The food was bog standard bar food, certainly nothing special and it was only the fact that I was stuck in this hotel with no transport to take me anywhere that forced me to eat here. The only saving grace was the staff that they employ. The owners certainly dont deserve such lovely staff and they must have to work really hard to try and make the best of a bad job. The hotel owner who is in his late 40's and his late teenage partner are extremely rude and unhelpful. They have a very laid back attitude where if your not happy they simply tell you to go else where as he told another customer while in my presence. Would I recommend anyone to stay here - never. I also went home at the weekend knowing that I was booked in to stay in this hotel again on Monday. I also made the choice of commuting each day rather than face walking back into that place.
