DIRE. Avoid. very disappointing, down at heel, tatty, grubby and COLD. No heating, should be called Tower Coldroom. What a way to see in 2015. Bar staff wearing parka coats with hoods up, moody, abrupt and unsmiling.....no wonder as they were freezing. DJ wearing hooded Parka too. Music shambolic, some stuff that was never written to be danced to, as if he was picking tunes at random. The meagre group of revellers, about 130 folks, all wearing coats or cardis, even when dancing. Door staff friendly and welcoming, but they were in the warmest part of the building. Toilets, grubby, locks missing, no loo roll and in need of a tasteful refurb. Despite asking for the manager/owner he refused to speak to us or leave his office. We were refused our money back on the basis we had not complained immediately about the cold!!! The asian businessman owner, Mr P. Sangham, said he was too busy to see us as he was dealing with his other businesses. Well, hardly surprising as there were so few folks using the place to celebrate. Now we know why! Down at heel, cheap and nasty! So sad to see such a great Birmingham venue at such a low.

What a fantastic night! Me and my friends went to the roller disco for my birthday. I havnt been to one for 17 years as I could never find anywhere that did it. When I saw your website I was so excited to come and celebrate my birthday there.
It was a bit daunting at first but you soon get used to it. The staff on the door were really friendly, music was good, and there were plenty of seats if we needed to sit down.
We all had a fab night.....including the men and we will all be going back again :-)

Had a totally wicked night, loved the music and the atmosphere, best night out in ages. The new owners have bought the place back up again to how it used to be years back before closing. If you used to be a Tower fan before it closed, get back there, your missing all the fun !!!!

I had not been the Tower for at least 15 months. I heard it had changed hands so I didn't know what to expect when I returned 3 Saturdays ago (Aug 2010) well I was totally amazed and glad to see that someone has done the place justdice. The old cloack room has gone so that part is totally opened up. The toilets had been done up nicely, loads of tables were back so loads of seating to choose from and the good old atmosphere was back. I used to go the Tower 12 years ago and it was the best place for atmosphere, no trouble, dancing and simply having a good night. Would not entertain anywhere else and I was 21 at the time so no, it never was just a place to "grab a Granny" as people like to put it, I actually met my fella in there WHO was the same age as me 26. I love the place and would never have a bad word said. In all the years of going, I have never seen one bit of trouble. I don't mind paying to get in and I don't mind paying the bar prices, its totally worth it for the fact that I feel safe and can relax knowing im in good hands !!!!

Roller Revolution Roller Disco!!! oh my gsoh what an absolutely mega night, we haven't skated for years and when I heard of an over 18's roller disco in Birmingham we had to go.
The first panic was soon sorted coz they hire skates and they had plenty of roller blades and traditional roller boots.
the music was awesome proper disco hits mixed in with moder chart stuff
love it love it love it.
every one was so friendly and the atmosphere was just realy up!!
they do it every friday i think so i 'm going again soon,
nice one guys and girls cant wait till next time

We went to the Tower ballroom for our christmas party and all i can say is the phrase - horrifyingly bad - doesn't do it justice.
We queued for a very long time outside in the freezing cold, we got in and seated which is when i thought things were looking up - oh how very wrong i was.
The food served was cold and also UNCOOKED. i know this because last time i checked turkey wasnt meant to be bright pink ... our party was split over three tables with about 8-10 people per table. it took approximately 2 hours for the main to be served after the starter - by which point we were starving and then when it did turn up we had 1 plate of cold vegetables to share between one table. so after 1 raw turkey breast, 1 minging carrott i was looking forward to my dessert which i had picked on booking. But no, i was presented with proffiteroles (again about 2 hours after the main) which by the looks of it, everybody else shunned because they looked so rubbish.
The DJ had started his set about half hour through our meal because they were running so late so really all i can say is, if you want a night of unhelpful staff, rubbish DJ whilst your trying to disgest your raw food then this is definately for you. If not, steer well clear because this place is ****
My friend also went the night after for the roller disco for a works christmas do, he also told me that if his next xmas do was being held there, he'd promtly be making other plans.

Looking forward to a lovely sunday afternoon's dancing but alass they had sold so many tickets that the place was full or "appeared to be" with people bagging seats at all the tables for their friends that were yet to arrive. That was at 2.00pm when the dance was due to start. Walked all around the ballroom looking for two seats to avail. The staff said that they would try and find more seats from somewhere but there would be nowhere to put them without blocking fire exits and gangways. We gave up and had our money back and at that time even more people were piling in. We suggest that the fire prevention officers lookinto this overcrowding as there is no way that all those elderly people would be able to evacuate in the event of a fire.
Surely there should be a restriction on the number of people admitted.

After reading the reviews, and being a few years since my last visit, i was really unsure what to expect. All i can say is that the Tower is THE place to be if you like a real mixture of 80's pop and live music. £6 to get in? well, who expects to get in for free? the bar prices are average, and certainly cheaper than Broad St....Hence to say we had a enjoyable hassle free night, and will certainly be going back to the legendary Tower.

It's funny how people only really take there time to write reviews when the experiance is bad, so I thought I would write my quick review on what a fab time I had.
I booked the Tower Ballroom for my friends Hen (average age group 24-40) and it was the best choice ever, much better then Broad Street.
It was £5 in, friendly staff, waiting time at the bar was average with standard club drink prices. what I loved was the atmosphere. the band was fab, the dancefloor huge, smoking area was heated and they even had a cafe to get food at really resonable prices.
I would 100% go there again for a really good girls night. Vicky, 27.

i have read some of the pevious reviews and i dont agree, the tower now refurbished looks great nice and fresh. the people there are friendly. I havent seem any rudeness from the bouncers in fact i was there on saturday 20th December and i was laughing a joking with one of the bouncers while we were waiting for my taxi. The atmosphere was great. I do agree with some of the reviews prices of drinks are a little expensive and you know i am sure that the manager can make some changes in the future. It would be such a shame if we were to loose this place again as it has a big dance floor, these people who are trying to bring it down, let me tell you come to the towers and see for yourself its brillant.

I went to the tower on the 20th dec 2008...i will never be going again,£9 to get in,half hour wait to buy a drink, the entertainment was the biggest pile of crap ive seen. The staff was very rude and couldnt crack a smile if they tried, when i went to collect my coat from the cloak room, the girl behind the counter practically threw it at me,the rudest girl ive ever met in my life,my advice is DONT GO.Dont waste your money....SHUT IT BACK DOWN.

I visited the Tower on Saturday, 6th December, 2008. The staff on the door were the rudest I have ever met. We had to wait ages in the freezing cold to get in and were treated with disrespect and lack of dignity by the staff. NEVER VISIT THIS PLACE. It should close down again.

I used to love going to The Tower years ago and went there for the first time since it re-opened. £5 to get in, £1 for my jacket in the cloak room, even thought it was cold and I wanted to keep it on, and £3.30 a pint of Carling. We're going through a recession!! All I can say is there are some greedy people out there. Also the place was about 10% full. Bring the prices down and you will get more custom. Very dissapointed!

i went to the tower for a gud night with my girlfriend and a few matesand their partners thinking that it would be okay after it had changed owners but my god was i wrong..the music they had on was ridiculous..a dj with no personality and no ability to entertain the crowd(if you could call it that!!) and the live band was crap, they should get someone who can actually sing!! apparently lots of people said this is all they have on saturdays..what a joke..the staff have a attitude problem, apart from the carpark attendant who was very polite to us..the bar prices are too high and the lager was flat and tasted like water!!!think its time to close them doors again..dont think it will be too long by the looks of things..

We were looking forward to a good night at the towerballroom, none of us had been since it had reopened and i tell you folks out there we would never step foot in the place again. The whole night was crapppp, the ammount to get in,the price of drinks, the staff, the music and it was empty to top it all.We would have had a better night at our local.Sorry but i think its time to shut them doors again.

I have never had so much trouble booking tickets up to watch joe longthorne at the towerballroom.
Then waiting for them to arrive at my house,i had to ring week after week after week to see when i would receive them and i kept been given many excuses why i hadn't got them by the most annoying, unhelpfull lady on the ticket line.A week before the concert i rang to see if i would get them in time i was told the concert had been cancelled, nobody bothering to get in touch with me to let me know. Now i am having trouble getting a refund, the same unhelpfull lady keeps promising to ring me back and refund my money but as before they dont even bother and when i ring i am been given excuses why they cant do it at that time.I am sorry to say i will never be setting foot in the place ever nor will i recommend it to anyone i know.Anybody out there had same trouble as myself ?

What a great night!!!!!!!!!! The band were fantastic and really got the crowd going. The price of the entrance fee has dropped too. I am looking forward to the Rod Stewart tribute this Friday. I saw Jack Danson on stars in your eyes and he was great.
So happy to see this wonderful venue open agin. Staff and door team are pleasant too.
Long live the tower!!!

What a nightmare.. if there were 30 people there all night thats being generous and 12 of them were me and my mates. have never had such an awful night.. £8.00 to get in n we got there early thinking it would be busy HAHA.. the only good thing about the night was the band who were fantastic but how soul destroying to play to an empty venue, they deserved more than that.. will never set foot in there again.

went to the tower, l was so excited to go, to my disppointment when l got in there it was 12 pound in and sadley when l went to the bar for me and mate, 3 pound for a small bottle of wine, all they had was dry white wine and rosea, but do like medium wine,no choices! and because we smoke as well' we went out side, to my surprise no cover! it was snowing and raining and was looking around at some ladies and men had jeans on! like to know if any one knows can you wear them? if you want people to go to tower l sugest to lower the drinks down, and get a cover for out side, and it would be nice if we could have a dj and a group, like we use to have,ps was lovely to see old friends and the door bouncers was very nice and polite

""GREAT PLACE""should never have closed...Greed was the cause and the snobby residents....
thought the entrance fee is rather steep £12
and £2 to park your car.....Got to get the resident group back NITE LIFE to make it buzz again and halve the entrance fee and scrap the car park charge otherwise it will close again.
This place didnt close through its loss making it closed because people got greedy....and wanted more...WELL DONE THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT AT BCC FOR SAVING A BIRMINGHAM INSTITUTION....
KEEP YOUR PRICES DOWN....ADMISSION AND BAR..... SCRAP THE CAR PARK FEE......AND YOUR ON A ABSOLUTE "WINNER"

very dissapointed 2 pound carpark 12 pound entrance fee.groups ok but not for the venue,
all our party agreed much better night if just d.j.and kept the price down.
This would bring in more punters and create a better atmospher.
Also the 2 pounds carparking fee for securer parking was a bit of a joke and liberty as when we come out at 2pm aprox there was no security to be see they had all gone home ,with our money and left the cars unprotected.
Will go again, but some things need to change if it is to become a regular Saturday night out for us.

Great News that the Tower Ballroom is re-opening.
Birmingham City Council should never have allowed this superb building to close in the first place.
It is one of the best dance floors in the country, a building with an interesting past and a wonderful entertainment venue for people of all ages whether you want to dance, listen to the music or simply enjoy a great night out.
Hope all the same staff are going to return.
All the best for the grand re-opening.

I've heard that the Tower ballroom is re-opening. That's great news! I hope they do not change it too much. I loved the resident group's music, the large dance floor and the friendly people.
Looking forward to the re-opening - any idea when this might be?
