Instead of being welcomed by the aromatic smell of Indian cuisine we are accustomed to smelling as soon as you walk into an Indian restaurant, we were welcomed by what I can only describe as walking into a wall of furniture polish. The 10+ staff which were like headless flies polishing everything in sight with pledge didn’t seem to care that people were trying to eat their food, and even when a complaint was made they carried on franticly polishing everything that stood still. I wasn’t happy with the Eastern Eye then and there and if I could go back I would have left then before we had even ordered food.
We sat down in the cramped, tightly crammed tables and ordered our food and drink, like lots of Brits my husband and I both enjoy a chicken tikka masala for its rich creamy mildness but when our order arrived it was a completely different story. The chicken tikka masala was as hot as any madras I have had in the past and both of were literally sweating trying to eat our food. We decided that enough was enough and to make a complaint and leave. We told the waiter that we were not happy with how hot the food was and wanted to pay for the food and drink we had eaten and just leave. When the Bill arrived they had charged us for all the food, even the stuff we had hardly touched. After a heated debate with the manager we eventually came to a compromise that we would pay for the rice which we had not eaten and they would not charge us for the two curries. We were made to feel like it was our fault and that we were lying about how hot the food was. The meal completely ruined my evening and I wouldn’t recommend the Eastern Eye to my worst enemy.
