We were badly let down by another hotel in Southwold (namely Southerland House - we booked online but, even though I had email confirmation, a reference number and secret guest number, they lost our booking!) and so had to find somewhere to stay at short notice. My wife and I had an excellent stay at the Crown. They were very sympathetic (it was our wedding anniversary. The food was very good and the service polite. We strongly recommend it!

We come very regularly to eat at the Crown. The food as always is excellent - in fact it is probably the best it has been since we have been visiting (since 1988). However the atmosphere in the restaurant has been changed by the newly introduced waitress service. The buzz that was the Crown has gone. It used to be fun going up to order with lots of people coming in hoping to get a table. Now it is very quiet and the restaurant is not full and it has a different feel about it. Also this time we waited 25 minutes for our starters - very very unusual.
