I am suprised to see this place still in operation now in 2012. This has to be the worst place we ever stayed at. We left mid way through breakfast like a couple of escape artists. Having pre-paid for two nights, we couldn't cope with staying another second. Instead packed and headed for an alternative place to stay. I have no Idea if there are new owners now. Horrific place and the oddest people running it, scary stuff guys..!

I note that you feature Bulbrooke Castle among the hotels and B & B‚s recommended on your website. I think you should consider carefully before further giving this establishment the stamp of your approval. Recently we had an extremely unfortunate experience there, and I would not wish others to have to submit to such treatment.
Two double rooms were booked last February by our relatives in South Africa who wished to return our hospitality. They were paid for up-front so there should be no question of our contributing; the arrangements were confirmed by telephone two weeks in advance. It was therefore mortifying to find when we arrived (Thursday, 16th October), after waiting in vain at the front door for half an hour, that the proprietor appeared to have forgotten about the double booking.
We were somewhat forwarned that all was not right when we saw how unkempt the surroundings were. Nothing prepared us for the squalor inside: filthy carpets, mess everywhere, old cardboard notices pinned to the doors indicating toilets, etc. After being accompanied upstairs by the proprietor (whom we initially took to be a retainer when he had at last emerged from the bushes outside, in his wellington boots and filthy jeans), we were first shown one rather small room. It looked comfortable enough, in a dingy, bedraggled sort of way, though very far from warranting the £75 being charged. There was no bathroom en suite as had been promised. The other room was quite simply unpresentable. It was even smaller than the first, a poky Œmaid‚s room‚: the bed had not been made, there was an air of filth, it was smelly, there were flies. For this also he was proposing to charge £75.
This was an unacceptable situation, not made any easier by the host, who was truculent and surly throughout, as though it were he who was put upon. He made to offer another room; but by this time we were thoroughly disgusted, and in no mind to risk breakfast next morning, let alone a night under such conditions. The request for re-imbursement was refused.
This was a painful and embarrassing encounter, which did nothing to recommend British hospitality to our South African cousins. I remain concerned that others will fall victims to the fraudulent and extortionate terms offered by this establishment. From reviews published on the ŒHeritage Britain‚ site it is clear that many others have already had to endure the same treatment. From the point of view of ŒHealth and Safety‚ alone, Bulbroke Castle and its amenities call for the most stringent inspection

I would not recommend anyone in their right mind to visit this establishment. It is a disgrace, dirty, grubby and disgusting. Please go on to the TripAdvisor website to find many reviews saying the same thing. I would not want anyone to waste any money on this venue. Please listen. The floor in our bedroom ahd mud and grass on the floor, the toilet had someone else's poo splattered around the bowl and the bath had curly hairs, dirt and scum around it. The breakfast was inedible and the cutlery and crockery were dirty and had mouse droppings on the table.
