I love going to the gym, and this gym is no exception its really enjoyable and friendly atmosphere. The staff are really nice and I often enjoy chatting away to them. I highly recommend the club to anyone that enjoys the gym and friendly people. I’ve also visited Basingstoke which is very nice and Fleet which I sadly can’t say the same for as it is full of chavy kids swearing and horrible unfriendly staff for me I’m going to stick to Godalming :).

I have with my husband been using Fitness First in Godalming since shortly after it opened, a number of years. We both agree wholehearteldy with a previous reviewer with regard to how the standards in the gym had dropped dramatically over the last 6 months. The management, if there is such a person/persons is non existent, the changing rooms often have no paper towels to dry your hands or soaps.
The machines are in dire need of an overhaul and the sound system (personal on machines) has been broken for over a week but failing over a number of months, therefore you are unable to hear the programmes on the TV's and have to listed to the pop music which is pumped out and accompanied by near pornographic vidoes...this is a mixed sex gym and no thought has been given to the ladies who attend..these videos would perhaps be OK in a nightclub but totally unapproprate for a fitness gym.
We are looking at other options in the area and will move if something isn't done to improve facilities in the near future. Very sad it used to be a pleasure to go to Fitness First.

My wife and I have been a members of Godalming Fitness First for about 4/5 years. We normaly average about four trips a week and although it's hard work we have always enjoyed the results. But we now feel that over the last 6 months that the gym is slipping into a degree of lethargy.
Let me quantify this with a few points.
There seldom seems to be clean drinking glasses and cups.
The 'clean' glasses and cups invariably have lipstick or stains on them.
It is seldom that at least one piece of apparatus is broken or out of order.
The lockers are dirty.
The staff seem to have more time to gather around the drinking area to chat than they do greeting members (with a smile)? or bidding farewell to exiting members. I counted 5 staff last night all enjoying a lenghty conversation while members came and went without any form of acknowledgment.
We have never met or indeed know if there is a manager on site.
I seldom complain but I do feel that if you are to maintain a good client base and a 'club like feel' in Godalming (I am sure you must note a decline in members) then some if not all these issues need to be addressed.
