Never been that far up north but its true what they say about northerners very, very welcoming. My only faults with the hotel were that the 1st two roooms I was shown to were very cold and druaghty, but the very helpfull staff found us another one which was great, clean, warm and comfortable. We ate there (very nice) and had a great time in the bar 'till the early hours with lots of nice guests. In the morning had a fantastic breakfast, and due to the nature of our visit ( a funeral) the hotel were happy for us to vacate our rooms later than normal so we didnt have to wonder around in the cold.

On arrival, staff very pleasant. When entering our room (203), was greeted by smell of stale cigarettes. Could not open windows as these were sealed shut with a hard plastic secondary glazing. Condensation inside windows had rotted cills exposing black mould. Had plenty of tea/coffee, milk and sugar - no kettle! On the plus side however, the bar area and food was excellent.

Good Points: Extreamly good value for money. Very friendly, clean and an excellent breakfast!
Bad Points: Can be a bit draughty with the old sash windows, but they did provide a heater when requested.

After one night in the Sparrow Hawk i fell in love with its magical surroundings. It is a breath of fresh air when compared to the rest of the burnley area. The hospitality i received was second to none. Bar staff and waiting staff offered an excellent service. Reception area was its only let down. on a number of occasions i waited for service but there was never anyone available.

Its proximity to town centre
A lift or a porter to help with luggage, no public phone, Safe didn't work
I enjoyed my stay, there is a large ensuite in the room and everything is clean and neat, we felt that the staff were helpful except when it came to the safe and ordering taxis for us, they seemed intent on making you use the phone in your room. I taught the bed was comfortable and clean and the room was warm and comfortable.
