We moved to this area in January and asked some of the locals for good places to eat. We were recommended to try the Olive Branch and Hambleton Hall.
We booked a table at Hambleton Hall - having called ahead to see if reservations were necessary - it was a midweek evening. When we arrived we did not know what to expect. Hambleton Hall has very fine surroundings and reminded me of some of the best hotels I have visited but was slightly more relaxed. The menus were understated, by example assiette of tomato - doesn't sound much but was truly inspirational.
So after a little nibble on a plate of tasters we ordered the taster menu - I can't recall the price but whatever it was it was worth every penny. This was only enhanced by being offered a selection from the wine list - a glass of this, a glass of that, a glass of the other. Perfect, so often when there's only two in your party (and one is driving) so this worked really well.
Better than Claridges, better than Rick Steins. Will be going back soon.
