We went to the Ferry Boats resturant in July for a Birthday dinner and a silver wedding anniversary. The resturant has obviously recently been refurbished and has been done to a reasonable standard. We started our dinner with drinks at the bar, the bar is well stocked with welsh beers, vodka's wiskeys etc which in general were good (the beer tasted a bit mass produced which is a shame given the number of excellent regional beers available in wales). We were a party of 15 and were asked to ring our order in earlier in the day which we were happy to do so. The menue was uninspiring but we managed to try and find some things we liked the look of. I had the crab tower for starter which was made using lovely local crab and avocardo, which for some reason was bound and then covered with a mass produced mary rose style dressing, the artificial taste of which ruined a wonderful ingredient. Most of the rest of the party had the goates cheese and beetroot salad which was pretty much declared a disappointment by all. (it also took till the end of our starters to get the wine to go with them). For main course 2 out of 3 of the steaks were pronounced excellent (althought they all came with the wrong sauce) but one was a poor cut which was inedible. I had the sewin (wild sea trout) which I was excited about as it is something we look forward to when we come back to fishgurard when we visit family. It was shown on the menue as cajun, so when we ordered the food we asked if the chef would mind cooking it without the cajun sauce as it would ruin the flavour of the fish, as 6 of us were ordering we were told this would be fine. The sewin was touch, dry and lacking in any flavour and was served with what tasted like a kraft garlic salad dressing, also we were all certain that it was not fresh. My sister in law and a few others had the chicken with chorizo which sounded lovely and can only be described as bizarre tasting neither of chicken or chorizo. The sea bass was pronounced a sucess. The waiting staff were very helpful and nice but could use a little more training (not their fault). At the end of the meal we complained to be greated by an obnoxiuos head waitress and chef / owner who refused to believe any thing we said. We were also advised that the chef couldnt have cooked the sewin pan fried as you should never cook oily fish any other way than en papiout, a bizarre claim and to be honest the fish hadn't been cooked en papiout any way. All in all the meal was total disappointing and very expensive given the number of sauces that came out of a jar. We will never visit it again.

Good Points: It had a fig tree outside the window and pansies in the window box. Breakfast was very tasty and included glamorgan sausage, dining room is lovely. Bad Points: Room and bathroom are very small. General review: pleasant
