I left England in 1980 and moved to Canada.
I now have four children, and I am looking forward to visiting my old country and showing them some places that played a significant role in my own upbringing.
The Royal Standard is one such place, together with Theakston's Old Peculier, and the many ploughman's lunches I have enjoyed in this beautiful historic building. Thank you for so many memories.

Great meal, great service, but oh, that fire. My clothes, my hair and my throat smelt of smoke for ages afterwards.
It took the edge off a nice day, particularly for my children who do not like smoke. We did not expect it to be so smokey
