Visited The Great House, Hawkhurst yesterday, Sunday 04th October for Sunday lunch. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch; the meat was delicious and very well cooked. A wide choice on the menu, will certainly be back soon. 10 out of 10

I'd been here three times previously. A Fathers' Day visit for lunch with my two daughters was a disaster. The restaurant was overbooked and we we seated in a makeshift dining room. The food was mediocre, there were not enough waiters, the fixed menu was over-priced and uninspiring and after waiting for twenty five minutes for someone to remove our main course plates, I reminded the manager of where we were. We waited for another twenty five minutes and still no one came. He later apologised and said they'd forgotten because they were busy. We left puddingless after paying for two courses at the bar. In retrospect, I wouldn't have paid anything.

Booked birthday lunch for four.
Well appointed pub/dining room. Very mediocre food, particularly Sunday roast. Difficult to differentiate lamb from beef and very odd, tasteless roast potatoes.
We had followed a Sunday Times recommendation and travelled from London expecting much more.
The majority of clients seemded to be families with young children and perhaps it is more geared to locals.
First and last visit.

I went to The Great House on Friday evening with 3 friends, the food was delicious, especially my main course, the lamb shank which was so tender, service was great and the atmosphere nice and relaxing - definitely worth another visit.

The food was utterly glorious and I recommended it to friends in London who drove down in september just to dine there. The two dinners I had there were the best meals I ate in 2007.

My friend booked a table at The Great House as a surprise. It was my first visit, the pub is lovely as was the welcome. We were offered 3 menu's, an a la carte, a set lunch menu (2 courses including salmon fillet and pork tenderloin for only £11.95)and a bar menu with sandwiches. I opted for the set menu as my friend was paying. The food was beautifully cooked and very well presented, it was very busy but this did not affect the service we received. I will be returning soon with my husband to try the a la carte menu.

A recent visit to the Great House on the 10th proved to be extremely disappointing. Having seen the sign whilst passing and requiring a lunch time break meal we stopped. Unfortunately the menu for lunch time is very brief. Pannini with chips and salad or various types of pizza. One of the pizzas was burnt on one side. The worst though was the charge for three small drinks of lemonade and lime. £1.50 for each glass of lemonade AND 50p each for a dash of lime. We will not be returning at these prices. Having operated a bar I know what the profit margin was on these drinks. Anyone attending take plenty of money.
