Lovely country pub with great atmosphere. service excellent with lovely wine list. However, what passed as roast lamb from Pevensy was a very much a disappointment. This was more suited to a cafeteria kitchen....(meat not from a joint but from meat rolled and then sliced, and also warm and not hot)... food not from a country pub that is trying to hold on to a good reputation. Seems that there has been an unsavoury change in the kitchen.

Great telephone manner when making the booking. Very helpful. Full and interesting menu. Great service and atmosphere. Good value for money. Would definately return. Shame the pub shuts at 3 pm. Would have been nice to have been told that when making the booking, though was told lunch was served from 12 - 2.

in a sea of gastronomic mediocrity this place stands out like a beacon of modernity and style. we had driven the area for ages attempting to avoid the usual scampi and chips and lasagne rubbish served in all other pubs that we stopped at. at the end of a winding country lane and with the most glorious views the sussex ox is a real find. the menu was lovely and both the duck and the bacon and onion pudding superb. there is a also a good attitude to kids - bring them by all means but dont let them take over- means a super garden but none of the mini playground nonsense. go you will like it - honestly
