It was a very pleasant summer's day when I took a detour, having visited the paragliding centre near Lewes on the A27 and Firle Beacon, a site renowned for updraught and good soaring.
I decided to explore the village of Firle and happened upon this splendid traditional Sussex country pub. I soon discovered the landlord, Shaun, is newly established and still in the throes of refitting, what was once a law-court complete with holding cells.
I ordered a coke and a Chicken Sandwich. The Coke came came perfectly chilled, but the sandwich was something else - it was absolutely delicious, served with fries and salad. I enquired as to the recipe, but just received a smile. Later I learned Shaun was particularly proud of his kitchen and prided himself on fresh food and quality ingredients.
The other dishes on the Menu looked equally tantalising. I am looking forward to my next pit stop at this wonderfully peaceful spot and planning to take the family for a second opinion.
If you are looking for an interesting spot to take family or friends for a special meal, I would not hesitate in offering The Ram Inn at Firle, as a place to include on your hit list.
