Bedroom v .comfortable and nicely furnished etc. as were the recption rooms throughout the hotel. Very impressive Hall and landing with lots of lovely old oak and rich carpets etc. Plenty of comfortable seating.
Food was good (although not particularly special)and the waiters very attentive if not exactly friendly.
What we didn't like was the over formality of the (almost exclusivly) Romanian staff. I don't think I saw any of them smiling the whole time we were there. The bar man had the arrogance of a disaproving butler. We felt that our comfort, relaxation and enjoyment of our stay was not their priority. I think this was reflected by the fact that the bar area was deserted most of the time. I don't think people felt particularly relaxed. Nobody stayed very long.
Reception was pretty hopeless - we asked about booking pony treking and were given a phone number of a local company which had closed down two years ago. We asked them to book us a taxi for the local theatre. It didn't appear and we were late. Overall there was a serious lack of local knowledge and sense of humour.
It am quite sure that some people enjoy the huge deserted reception rooms and a dining room so silent that the only sound is the scraping of cutlery and wispered murmerings. However they should make this clear to would be guests before they book.
