We stayed at the Star Caravan and Camping site recently and found it terrible. The site is well kept, and clean…and if you want a stay that is very quiet, no children playing and rules as strict as borstal this is the perfect place for you. We were in a family party of 6 adults, a 13 year old and 2 toddlers in 2 separate caravans. When we pitched up my nephew, who is 13, was playing on the open field with his tennis racket (not close to any caravans) and he was abruptly told to stop and there are no ball games. We were aware that the site has a quiet policy and once the toddlers were in bed in one caravan, we congregated into the awning to chat. We weren’t loud, as the children were in bed in the caravan… actually we were very conscious of the quiet policy so we kept the noise to a minimum. The following morning at 8am, we were abruptly knocked up by the warden (and he woke the children up) who said he had received a complaint about the noise the previous night. He wasn’t willing to listen to our side of the story and very abruptly told us our ‘neighbours’ had travelled a long way to visit the caravan park (as did we!) and that we probably didn’t know how much noise we were making as we will have been drinking !!! (the cheek!).We were also told we would be asked to leave if it happened again. The warden is constantly ‘doing his rounds’ which makes it a very uncomfortable location, as we felt as though our every move was being watched. The site has very little amenities except for a park for the children and the usual shower/toilet/washing up block. It doesn’t even have a shop on site - except for a vending machine in the entrance reception area. Considering it was the summer holidays and the location was so close to Alton Towers, the site still had so many spaces free…though on reflection, Im not surprised. Overall, the site is safe and well presented, though for me, that is the only benefit. I wont be booking back up there again and it is a definite no no for families who want to have (even the slightest bit of) fun.

I have been travelling down to this site for over 20 years with tents when I was younger and caravans for the last 10 years. I had never booked in advance and I had never needed to. However, I arrived on 28th June to be treated very rudely by the man at reception who refused to let me and my 3 kids entry, (kids aged 15, 13 and 7). He told me the site had plenty of pitches, but I wasn't having one! He thereafter denied that I had ever been allowed access without an advanved booking before. He told me to go to another site! He then wouldn't let me even enter to turn my caravan. Anyone who knows the site entrance will appreciate it's off a busy main road. I had to get my 15 year old daughter to guide me back onto that road. She was crying with fear when she got back into the car. I was totally shocked by the whole thing and I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS SITE TO ANYONE VER AGAIN. All very sad after 20 years of happy camping. It appears that as I choose to tow my unit with an L200 pick up I'm not welcome there. I only found that out when the site I did get booked into told me it happens all the time for numerous reasons. Commercial suicide in my opinion!

A lot can be said about The Star Caravan & Camping Park, and we read a lot of reviews and comments on this, and many other camping related websites before we booked. When we decided that this was the place for us, it was after reading the details on The Star's own website (www.starcaravanpark.co.uk)which believe you me, it covers a lot of detail. on the whole, all this information really is good old fashioned common sense and respect. We stayed at The Star over the Ausgust Bank Holiday, and it was very very busy - but you know what? the place was always clean, always quiet at night and we had a thoroughly lovely time. The moral of this short note is, read up before you book, and make sure that this is the site for you. We'll be back for sure - happy camping.

Best caravan and camping we have ever been to by far. Everywhere was spotless clean and modern, a large childrens playground that our kids played for hours in , and made lots of new little friends. A great base for Alton Towers and the Peak District (however we did'nt go to Alton Towers)A little pub down the roads for a drink. The staff were really helpful and friendly, showed us to our pitch etc. We got a good nights sleep (the 11pm no noise rules really works here) so no noisey louts-thank heavens!! We have booked to go back for the spring bank holiday at the end of May with my sister and her kids, I hope that they are as impressed as we were.

Fantastic site - this has got to be one of the cleanest caravan and camping parks we have ever stopped on in the last 10 year we have been camping. We got a lovely warm welcome on our arrival, and a gentleman showed us where to pitch. We wanted a pitch with electrical hook up for our tent, as we have two young children and a baby of 8 months, so the warden sited by the play area which was great for us. We were a little worried about being there initially, as we thought that kids playing late would keep the children awake, fortunatly the wardens lock the gates to the play area at about 9pm - so a good nights sleep was had by all concerned. We has only booked for 3 nights, but we ended up staying for 5 nights. Overall The Star is a great family friendly park, with lovely clean facilities. We'll be back!!!!

We found the layout, facilities and cleanliness at the site very good. Also very conveniant for Alton towers There are strict rules in relation to quiet time, children, ball games and visitors and these rules are VERY strictly enforced. We were quite happy with these rules and abided by them, however one specific male member of staff was quite rude and aggressive towards my daughter (age 8) to the point where she was worried go around the site without an adult! Also, one friend remained on the site whilst we visited the Alton Towers and she asked a male member of staff if her sister in law could visit. This was refused as a 'Security Risk'! Whilst I could see the reasons for the rules, we all found them enforced to a point and in a way that felt quite unpleasant and we are one of 3 families that will not return to this specific site. This is a shame, as it is a lovely site. I would not recommend this site to families with children
