Sharon, my wife, author of three middle school books, and an outspoken admirer of Daphne du Maurier, organized the week-long visit to Menabilly estate during her Spring Break in March, 2006. Our good friends, Allen and Linda Simmons, of Memphis, Tennessee USA, accompanied us. It was, as the Cherokee Indians used to say, a 'remembered time'.
My favorite 'desktop' picture is the view from in front of Pridmouth Cottage toward Gribben Tower. Of all the places I have visited in my 83 years this is the one I cherish most. Pridmouth, where we stayed, faces a delightful cove on the Cornwall seacoast; and in the early mornings it was great to wake up to the incoming tide. The public pathway that hugs the rugged Cornwall seacoast passes in front of the cottage. In one direction is the historic Gribben Tower and in the other Fowey, where Daphne du Maurier lived before moving to Menabilly Cottage.
