Shanghai Inn @ Oddfellows - We visited the chinese restaurant within the Oddfellows for a buffet meal to find a refurbished restaurant which is much brighter and more welcoming. The Oddfellows also has been refurbished and welcoming. I assume the refurbishment is ongoing as the ladies toilet door was propped open and the cublices in serious need of improvement. The beer and cider we ordered had run out, then when my husband reordered his drink the lager had run out! This was 7pm on a Saturday night - not good!
The food in the chinese part was good - the new buffet format is a brilliant idea - cook as required, so it is not standing out for hours. With improved service this could be a good restaurant - since the takeaway side is obviously booming. It's a shame the takeaway service seems to take preference over the customers eating in, we were served food with no plates to eat off whilst the takeaways were dealt with. We eventually received the plates and the food was good.
