It has to be noted that this is now the newly rebuild George Hotel after a fire completely destroyed it in December 2008. It is now a suberb looking copy of the old coaching inn, but with the modern tweeks that make it so much better. Friendly, welcoming staff, a huge bar area diveded into smaller cosy areas, log burning stoves, and a comprehensive menu, (grazing boards are my recommendation. Smokers have the choice of being completely outside, or an outside courtyard area so they are not banished from the hotel, yet non smokers need not worry either as sets of double doors prevent smoke wafting in.
All in all I found this to be a lovely hotel in a fantastic setting. Perfect for a relaxed country break without the feeling of isolation as Hatherleigh has a good few select shops and a cracking old fashioned market on a Tuesday morning.
Highly recommended for a weekend break.
