had a really lovely meal here with the children. plenty of open space with climbing frame and lots of flavours of ice-cream to choose from. especially impressed as we could all eat from the vegetarian options.

On the way out of the pub the customer who had made the booking for this group came up to me, shook my hand and told me what a good time they had had. We try very hard to ensure all our customers receive good service in a friendly and courteous manner. We have many very happy customers who verbally thank us for the great time they have had at the pub!!!

I went to this pub yesterday with a few of my motorcycle friends (group of 10 people all paying for lunch) and asked for some tap water. I didn't want to eat anything too heavy because I have a sensitive stomach and was going another 80 miles (2 hours) motorcycle ride afterwards. I asked the owner nicely if it was possible to make up just a plain sandwich, to which replied very abruptly 'we only do what's on the menu' there was a ploughmans option with cheese on there so I'm pretty sure it wouldnt have broken their backs too much to rustle up a sandwich like most pubs I visit do without a problem. I said I'd leave it then and was about to walk off with my water when he said 'well if you're using the pub you should buy something, as I have to pay electric and gas bills' etc (i bought a packet of crisps to shut him up) I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I actually thought he was joking at first, I was there with 9 or 10 paying customers all of which had substantial meals and drinks, and I wasn't exactly going to wait outside for an hour. I do have a severe allergy to eggs, poultry chicken turkey etc which is why I wasn't going to risk eating too much and had this owner had been pleasant enough to accomodate I would have explained in more detail about my allergy, although I did mention it briefly while I was looking at the menu. There is no need for rudeness like this, and the pub was empty which didn't surprise us if this is the way he treats people. I didn't take issue with this at the time because I didn't want to cause a scene in front of my friends but had they have not been there I would have had a few strong words at his people skills and customer service technique. I've never been so surprised!

After having are wedding booked with the pig on the hill for 8 month, we have been cancelled on. Waited 2month for menu, which never got. Staff kept saying they lost my number, wrote it down for them more then 4 times including email, which they had a could have contacted me on. USELESS! 6 months (1 month before invites to go out, and still waiting on menu) before the wedding got this email- Thank you for your email. As I am sure you know, your wedding is taking place on the Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend. This will be an extremely busy time for the pub and we have therefore decided that we cannot host your wedding. I am sure you will find a more suitable venue and we should like to wish you good luck on your big day. Best regards The Pig on the Hill Wedding booked BEFORE the Jubliee date come out!, now having to run around trying to find a venue for Jubliee weekend (impossible) and may even have to cancel wedding all together! NIGHTMARE! STAY AWAY!

Great venue well worth a visit. Varied menue with specials on offer every day. Check opening times or call them to book a table (recommended) There is an outside play area for children and inside a skittle alley as well as some electronic games. Locals can join the EX Club and get discounts._

After seeing the new Harrypotter in Barnstaple we desided to go and have a meal out. We ended up at the POAH. My wife and daughter had Meat Lasagne mt son Ham egg and chips myself Steak with pepper sauce and fries. The food arrived, the ham and eggs ok followed by my steak on a wooden board no sauce. I had been given a normal knife and fork there was rice in the tangs of the fork, a new one was supplied along with a steak knife. When the sauce arrived i asked how do i pour the sauce onto a flat wooden board, my meal was taken away and returned on a plate. My wife and daughters food arrived on a wooden board! with splits in them. There was too much cheese which was rubbery they were oozing fat which seeped through the crack in the board onto the place matt off the side of the table into my wife and daughters lap. The Steak was tough the lasagne uneatable. I complained to the waitress and she said she would pass my comments on. We heard nothing. My steak meal consisted of 3 cherry tomatoes 1 mushroom 24 fries and a bland sauce cost £20. My wife and daughter left there meal, my son ate his.I wanted to persue my complaint but my son and daughter and wife just wanted to get out. We won't go there again!

Was recommended the Pig on the Hill in the write ups in the small house we rented for a 1 week holiday in Bideford. Anyways we pitched up without booking and although we did have to wait for a while (about 30 to 40 mins on both occasions) we were told by the VERY friendly bar staff that we would have at least a 30 minute wait for food. The bar staff and waitress staff are EXCELLENT, attentive and the food was GREAT ! Thats why we went twice. The raspberry pavolva (made up by the waiting staff) is awesome ! The beer selection (from a real ale lover) is supurb ! Overall excellent ! Really wish there was a pub like this in our locality (Chorley, Lancs) To the people who complain about waiting for the food then "BOOK IN ADVANCE". Lastly, they are child friendly....which in this day and age is good to see !

What a refreshing change to be greeted by a smile!! Thank god that the ginger idiot simon has finally gone :) John & Mel are new to the pub trade, but have instilled a friendly, inviting atmosphere to the pub. Food-wise, the menu has been reduced with a smaller choice menu, but with quality ingredients. the beers have had a change too, with some new lagers arriving. The place looks a bit barren atm as lots of the pictures have been taken down to get their first clean in 4 years, but it looks like the pub is finally back in good hands after a 4 year wait.

Cannot understand the fuss over bread rolls. Our party of six diners are regular visitors to the"Pig" and have always found the landlord very convivial and ready to receive and respond to banter. The food is excellent with a good selection on the menu and Specials Board, the staff are very attentive and when asked for an extra portion of cream on a sweet, brought it without question or charge. Those of us that had not ordered a starter were given a hot bread roll, once again without charge,EXCELLENT. The Pig on the Hill is a must for us every year when we visit Westward Ho! The food is excellent (I am rather partial to the Dime Bar Pie!), the service good and my 14 year old fondly searches every year for his pieces of 'artwork' drawn on napkins over the years that Simon the landlord has pinned up around the bar. It is definately to be recommended.

If you are in the area and enjoy good pub grub and real ale you must visit the Pig. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about their range of beer and cider. The food was hot, freshly prepared and served up in a timely manner. It's the best pub we've visited in the area to date and we've been to a few. We'll certainly be visiting again and I won't take the car next time.

WOW! We just had to visit this pub after reading the reviews. What a shame someone felt the need to get vindictive over the size of a bread roll, especially as this place has so much to offer the whole family. The kids just loved the outside play area and the indoor skittles alley, they just wanted to go back every day. We thought the food was very good value for money bearing in mind that it was all so fresh. Can't imagine how anyone could eat a large roll bearing in mind how generous the main meals were. As for the beer, wonderful! The Pig on the Hill and staff running it really helped make it a brilliant holiday, well done.

Come down to Devon about once every six weeks and the "Pig" is always on our visiting list. Great place for a chill - beer superb (according to my other half!). Good food and great banter from Simon! I think that the people who do not enjoy the pub, should stick to McDonalds, as they obviously do not appreciate freshly cooked food and a traditional British landlord!
