This was the second time we had eaten here since the current owners (Mike & Ally) have taken over. Friendly atmosphere, no problems with the pub itself or the decor but the food is dreadful. The first time was a very dodgy Sunday lunch a couple of years ago. This time was a very quiet Saturday night with just 2 other tables occupied for food - a table of 4 and another of 2. So it should have been a doddle! We ordered fish and chips and a chicken breast with bacon and cheese in a mushroom, red wine reduction with seasonal vegetables. The fish and chips were fine but the chicken was so tough and chewy it was inedible. The broccoli was yellow and the potatoes were not 'new' but old and wrinkly and obviously reheated in a microwave. Far worse even than the food was the attitude of the landlady who came to clear our plates - the only thing left on the plates was a whole chicken breast but the landlady picked up both plates and never asked what was wrong! I had to call her back to tell her why the chicken breast had just a couple of small pieces cut from it and when I did so she was decidedly uninterested. No apology, explanation. We paid the bill in full (no offer of reduction, replacement was made) and left. We will not be giving the pub a third try under this management, but we do feel assured that it cannot survive under the current mismanagement so inevitably will give the new owners the benefit of the doubt when the day comes!
