My wife and I visited Cerne Abbas to celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary and it was magical. The Pub is lovely and the historical details are fascinating. The place was clean, warm, and warm hearted to the extent that the management loaned me their cell phones as my had temporarily died. The beer is superb and Peter the assistant bar treasure is a true gentleman. Go and visit one of the loveliest villages in England and a really great pub.

Well worth a visit the new owners Nicky & Dale & family and their manager Garry have really transformed this pub. The food is excellent family cooked home made and reasonably priced. A very good selection of ales and extremely well kept too. Thoroughly recommended for a pleasant stay.

Very disappointing. Sunday lunch, small portion of overcooked beef, just about warm, served on cold plates. Dull vegetables. Roast potatoes good. Yorkshire pudding soggy. Only three desserts and the waitress wouldn't take our order - we had to go to the bar. Tables not very clean, paper napkins very thin. Very ordinary cutlery. No place mats. The walls had obviously been washed and there were black dirt smears all over them and the ceiling.
In a pub this size with several separated areas, visitors with small children should be put in a designated area.
How can people run places like this? The Royal Oak used to be a lovely pub. We won't be going again. If they have only just taken over they should close down while repairs/renovations are made.

This is how Pubs used to be! A very warm welcome awaits you at this lovely family run pub. The new owners Nicky and Dale with the help of their manager Gary and Nicky's Mum and Dad and her brothers, are old hands in the pub business with Dale looking after you out front and Nicky cooking traditional and mostly homemade favourites in her kitchen! I highly recomend a med-rare steak!!!!! and Nickys very own homemade liver pate to start!! yum yum! The beer is some of the very best I have ever tasted "Thirsty ferret" Well done on the upkeep of your seller Dale! Please please keep it up!!
Thank you very much for one of the most enjoyable pub visits I have had in a long time.

We as a family including our 4 year old daughter stopped off at this pub on our way to Brighton from Devon. The owners are new (took over in Feb 2006) but you would think they have been there for years. The pub was built in 1540 and still has many of its original features. Kids are welcome. The food is excellent as well as the service but as the new owner is a Master Chef of Great Britain then you would expect nothing less. Drinks were excellent adn a very large selection of quality wines. A must try if you are in the area
