Bad Points: on arrival thought whay a lovely hotel grand building. Was then very disapointed that we were not actually in the main building but in another part which had none of the character . The evening meal was not good my Lasagne was served in a soup bowl and needed to be as it was all sauce needless to say I didnt eat it. General review: If you stay at this hotel request a room in main building. Breakfast was nice, but evening meal was awful.

Good Points: The hotel breakfast was nice and relaxed The area and grounds of the hotel was clean and well looked after. The room itself although in need of a repaint and repair etc was clean with all necessary items to hand should they be required (iron, tea etc) Bad Points: The bedroom furniture was broken in places and there had been water damage as evidence to the large patch on the ceiling would confirm. The tiles in the bathroom could do with a good clean to remove mould etc. General review: We enjoyed our stay as it was for the one night, but for the money would have liked the problems in the room to have been addressed if we were staying longer i would have requested another room.

The shop is ok, however as Tesco has managed to close every other shop in the area, it would be nice to not have to wait in line like lemmings to served. We are also missing the traditional village service that Jim Smart used to provide. Okay, the product range is sightly better, the price is the same, but as a community we miss the local service and fun that Jim and Saharon always provided. Tesco may own most of the UK, but please improve your service within our village or get out and bring back JIM

Good Points: The hotel was well run and comfortable with a slightly gentile shabby feel about it. I liked it. Bad Points: Unfortunately the spa facility was not available (missing part or something) which was disappointing. General review: Hotel is a typical largish Victorian holiday venue which is also used extensively for business meetings and conferences. I'd recommend it to friends.

If you like the look of this Hotel from the description & the pictures, think again. Your expectations may well not be met. If you have booked something on the web before & been disappointed you will know the feeling, steer well clear of this one... It is a bit like Dante's Inferno. From the sweeping drive, the elegant facade, through the well kept reception, past the business facilities, it degrades in stages, culminating in a dilapidated set of terrapins masquerading as accommodation appended to the rear of the main building. Whilst the original part of the hotel could do with a significant refresh, i.e. the white paint restored from its current faded magnolia appearance, the rear appendage simply no longer has any, what it did have is either on the floor or hidden by stains & dirt. The room was only marginally better. However, this opinion only lasted a short time until my other half pointed out the large cobweb hanging down from the ceiling, the general dust, the damaged walls, ill fitting (& insecure) door & the teapot with no lid! However the piece de resistance was the bed, which was a mattress so cheap & lumpy that 2 days later we are still recovering from the back pain it induced. I could go on endlessly about the shoddiness of this place. All I can say is that if you don't believe me, go have a look. I have seen student halls that put this rip off to shame. Avoid.

Although this hotel is in need of a facelift in some areas we were very pleased generally. This hotel is in a lovely scenic position, and has its own outdoor olympic sized pool, with beautifully tended grounds. Our twin bedroom was spacious and comfortable, and had its own balconoy overlooking the pool. The hotel lounge appeared to have been recently redecorated and refurbished to a high standard. The staff couldnt have been friendlier. We had to agree that the cooked english breakfast was the best ever - cooked individually to order. We couldnt fault it! We would definately want to stay there again, whenever visiting the peak district.

Food and service good, but the so called superior room very unsatisfactory and bad value. Small disapointing room with very limited view. No toiletries supplied as advertised. No mineral water, one small packet of biscuits with two biscuits for two people. No bulb in standard lamp, very dark and unable to read. Small portable TV with no sat/cable channels as promised, only four basic channels. One sash window opens but the other crashes down horribly if lifted. Small bath and noisy extractor fan.
