Very handy from Aberdeen Airport en route to the distilleries of Speyside, and a truly elegant Georgian exterior – proper portico for alighting from the coach and four. The setting is pretty too, parkland to go with the stately home feel.
Dinner was excellent, with unobtrusive and professional service that didn’t mind a convivial evening dragging on beyond midnight. The food was pretty traditional which is no bad thing – I went for the game terrine with delicious onion compote; duck breast; and sticky toffee pudding. And the well-stocked bar even had BrewDog Punk IPA so thumbs up for more imagination than most hotels. Breakfast was full Scottish, black pudding and all, again service good.
Room and bed were both comfortable; but a slight gripe was the bathroom which though clean and with plentiful towels had a few knocks and bruises starting to show. Sadly my programme meant I didn’t get to sample the spa facilities, nor the billiard room. Some other time I hope.

Good Points: Great building. Clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice spa. Good breakfast.
Bad Points: Having card authorised on arrival - depsite providing full details on the net, this is not a custom I am accustomed to, although the majority of my hotel stays are not in the UK so I can't say what is usual practice here.
Having the receptionist repeat aloud the cost of the stay despite my signing a from with the price clearly written on it - I had wanted to conceal the price from my partner. This, I mentioned to the (otherwise very nice, helpful and efficient) receprionist, she repeated it on check out as I paid anyway. Tiny room.
General review: Had a lovely time, relaxed atmosphere, but room size was very disappointing.
