I have been to the Old Jail near Biggin Hill on four occasions over the last two years and have eaten on each visit. Every time the food has been good: well presented, generous but not outfacing and very tasty. Sometimes it took longer than we would have expected for food to arrive but pub kitchens must be under some pressure during peak times. The interiors have a cosy/friendly if dated look to them. The garden is huge with play area and what looked like outdoor floodlit 10-pin bowling on some nights. My two observations for the pub would be to renew the outdoor garden tables and double the number of real ales available. Lovely pub to visit especially for those with children.

Fond memories of camping near here with my parents & walking up Jail Lane on a warm summers evening for a drink & a packet of Smiths crisps with the little blue bag of salt.(mine was a lemonade!)
I wonder if the field where we camped is still there, on the edge of a bluebell wood & banks of primroses?

I must disagree withJ W Kemp The Old Jail is probably one of the last original and traditional country pubs. Well kept and presented ales and a good selection of wines and real home cooked food. The garden is immacculately maintained and the toilets are what you would expect from from a local country pub.There is no loud music playing just the sound of good conversation from people enjoying themseves.I suggest J W tries weatrherspoons pubs, all new and glittery but no soul, just the ideal hang out fo0r the sad, lonley and underaged.I have been acustomer of the Old Jail for some eleven years and as the saying goes, if it dont need mending, dont try and fix it.

The Jail is a lovely place to eat. The food is excellent (especially the chicken skillet!) and the atmosphere is wellcoming and cosy. In the summer the garden is great and in the winter the open fires make you feel like its home. Keep it up great value for money!

I'm a local, and this is one of my favourite places for a meal. This is a great pub/place to eat, and it has a wonderful atmosphere. Friendly, helpful staff too! There's a great kids play area outside (logs, climbing frames etc. - my friend's 6-year-old had a whale of a time!), within easy view of the tables in the garden. The food is excellent, and there's something on the menu to please most people. The food is well cooked and well presented, and it doesn't cost a fortune either!

.This is a fine "old" pub with excellent food,good friendly polite staff, but sadly dated in many aspects.
For instance toilets(M/F) need urgent refurbishment work done.and the pub in general requires a good clean.
The exit from the car park is very seriously impaired on leaving due to two gigantic tubes/tubs acting as plant pots.
The road view is totally blocked by the foliage. I am surprised no serious accident has happened due to lack of visibility. Also lack of umbrellas in the garden,available on request but never put out for customers. Thank you
