I am the owner of this pub and generally take these reviews with a pinch of salt but the most recent from Mr. Smith made my blood boil !
2 hours is not a long time for a three course meal with appetizers, coffee & petit fours.
Less than £200 for 6 people is a downright bargain.
We explained to the daughter that our card machine would not allow payments without the card & card holder present, we are not a hotel, we do not require this facility. I telephoned barclaycard to seek a solution but as it was a Sunday and without notice there was no chance (hence the call back in an hour).
Perhaps had I not been dealing with this problem, Mr. Smith would have got his food a little faster !

Third visit for Sunday lunch to The Black Horse. Not very busy this time but still took 2hours for lunch that we had to ask for our bill as we got our sweet,as we were going to the races. The bill for a Sunday lunch I thought was over the top, over £170 for 6 people.Posibly hiked up for Mothering Sunday.
As it was my birthday my daughter in America rang the pub to pay for our meal but they couldn't even take the payment and told her to ring back in one hour as they were busy.
Food ok.

We recommend the Black Horse to anyone and we always take visiting friends there because we know for sure we will not be disappointed. We've even taken friends who work at a 3 Michelin Star restaurant and they were genuinely impressed too. The food is truly fantastic. And the real fires make it lovely and warm.

As long time vegetarians, we expected a vegetarian landlady to have a choice of vegetarian dishes on the menu, but there was just the 'seasonal' risotto. Very nice, but having eaten at the Black Horse twice now, with just the same 'choice', we won't return.
And why is she so offhand? Why toss the menu on the bar in front of us? (on both visits). And why is it so bloody cold in there? We had to put our fleeces on to keep warm.

We have watched this dining pub become more and more popular over the last 2 years and rightly so. It was recently presented with the Taste of Linconshire Pub Food Award. The food is locally sourced, wherever possible, and portions are not for the faint-hearted. Menus might include home-made pork pie, Cassoulet, wonderful risottos, ox-tail and kidney pudding, shin of beef and rabbit casserole. If you have a hearty appetite, we recommend the home-made delicious sweets. Prices are very reasonable and we will continue to eat there regularly.
