Sirs I have only just discovered your site and am somewhat bemused to read two such contrasting reviews. May I take this opportunity to respond to the poor review by Catherine Hunt in defence of our establishment. I have several valid points to raise. We remember that partie's visit well, as it was the day after my father died. Firstly, the reservation was made for a perty of four and not five as the lady stated. All food is freshly cooked to order and the chef would be ensuring that the main courses were going to be ready before sending out the starters. O.k. the lady said they were average, but we recieved no complaints at the time. We recieved no complaints about the steaks not being cooked as specified, only the stroganoff. The ladie's only complaint about that was the fact that it had dijon mustard as an ingredient. As explained to her by the chef this is an authentic recipe, and yes we did apologise for the way she was feeling (the customer is always right you know) The toilets are thoroughly cleaned every day and if there was no toilet paper I do apologise, maybe I hadn't checked them that evening. After lots of searching and hearing good reviews of this pub, I decided to celebrate my birthday here, and I wasn't disappointed. A few of us ordered steaks some rare some medium rare and they were all cooked to perfection, in fact I'd go as far as to say I've never tried a nicer steak. I finished with the Lemon Merangue Ice Cream cake, (which I've never seen anywhere else unfortunately) and this was fantasitic. On the whole the service was fantastic and a good time was had by all, we will be back again!

Very disappointed with this 'restaurant'. We were the only people in, the staff seemed un-interested & although we had booked there wasn't a table set for 5 people as asked. We each had a starter and a main. After ordering it took 30 mins(!) for the starter to arrive and it was average. The steak wasn't cooked as specified and the stroganoff was disgusting, an overpowering taste of dijon mustard (Although this wasn't noted on the menu and when asked, the chef said it was an authentic recipe. This is my favourite meal & I haven't EVER had it with mustard). We left after letting our feelings known and getting a very mild 'I'm sorry you feel that way'. To finish the toilets weren't properly cleaned and there was no toilet roll.
