The service here has got to be the friendliest for miles around. Any worries we had when arriving to find building work was going on were dispelled on entering our newly refurbished room - huge wrap-around corner window with a view down to Kendal maybe a mile away; enough floor-space for a formal dance; a shower that was tropical storm to the light drizzle found in too many hotels.
The Green Room restaurant was full on a wet night in January. Five course local produce tasting menu we opted for only £30! And they presented us with what was far more than an amuse geule for nothing, a ballotine of duck with caramelised walnuts.
Another great sign: the house wine was good, light fruity Merlot that went with the plate of local smoked delicacies, the soup, and the pork platter - fabulous belly and even better breaded trotter confit.
We will definitely be back.

Good Points: The staff were excellent. Very helpful and friendly. The was a wide range of breakfast food, which was very nice, and regularly topped up by the chefs. Nice views to look out onto whilst easting your breakfast. Room was kept very tidy by the maids and fresh towels were provided every day.
Bad Points: The furniture in the room was a little dated. The view from our room was not great as we were looking out onto a courtyard, rather than the views of the Lakes. The wadrobe cubicale needed some diy work done to it.
General review: Good hotel. Great value for money. Nice good. Staff friendly
