My girlfriend and I found the Harbour Inn to be the nicest looking place to eat when we visited Lowestoft on sunday afternoon. We ordered one starter and two mains. The starter came out in about 10 minutes and was average. 40 minutes later we still had not received our mains and people who had come in after us had received and finished theirs. I approached the bar and politely asked the staff how long the mains would be. The mains came out 2 minutes later. My girlfriend had the beef roast which she said was nice. I had ordered the swordfish, and it was off. It smelled rotten and the taste was terrible - just like when you have off milk and get the tingling/burning taste in your mouth that lingers for ages. I took the food back to the bar and politely said "I don't want to sound like a complainer, but I think the fish is off" A person I assume was the manager came and took the food without saying anything - leaving me standing in the bar area wondering what was going on. He returned with a replacement dish and flatly said "It's not off, it came in yesterday." I found the service in the Harbour Inn to be totally terrible - almost like the dark ages. The fish took ages to come out and was rotten, I politely returned it and wasn't even given an apology for anything at all - in fact I was told I was wrong, when I am sure that any person who even smelt the fish would say otherwise. Assuming that was the manager I was speaking to, I think he needs a visit from someone like Gordon Ramsay to relearn the basics of service! Basically the place left a bad taste in my mouth in more ways than one.
